Poetry therapy employs the writing and reading of poetry as a means of expressing and exploring thoughts, feelings and behavior in order to bring about therapeutic change. It involves the use of language, symbol, and story in therapeutic, educational, growth, and community-building capacities.
Drama Therapy/Psychodrama and Theatre playing
Drama Therapy is a method of psychotherapy in which clients are encouraged to continue and complete their actions through dramatization, role playing, group dynamics and dramatic self-presentation. Action Methods are used to enable past, present and future life events to be explored. Issues or problems and their possible solutions are enacted rather than just talked about. Psychodrama offers the opportunity to practise new roles safely, see oneself from outside, gain insight and change.
In Drama therapy, we deal with our experiences whether from the past, the present, or even sometimes from the future!! We bring it all to the here and now, through which one can explore the emotions and thoughts, aiming for a better quality of life and for improving client’s functioning with daily situations and life events.
Theatre playing
The pride of Diwan is the production of two whole plays starring our patients, psychologists, psychiatrists and volunteers. We handled everything from script-writing to decorations and customs and we performed ‘name of play’ at the theatre of ‘name of theatre’ back in ‘date’. The creation of this play was pure fun and we got excellent feedback from the team who worked on this play’s preparations. Combining a whole set of creative art therapies (art, drama, music, poetry, writing…etc) the play came to life after months of preparations leaving everybody who worked on it with an overwhelming sense of accomplishment and a newly discovered strengths about oneself.
